Psychonauts 2, the much awaited sequel to the original Psychonauts, has been delayed yet again to 2020.
The news was broken to fans by the CEO of Double Fine Productions Tim Schafer in an update posted on the game’s crowdfunding page on Fig, in which he goes into detail as to why the studio made the decision to delay the game.
The official post read:
“We’re now targeting next year for release. We know it’s always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who – just like us – want the game to be as good as possible. So we’re hopeful you’ll understand! <3”

This news also comes in the wake of a recent announcement at E3 2019, where it was revealed that Double Fine Productions had been acquired by Microsoft. And Tim Schafer also emphasizes in the update that this does not mean that that the studio will not be able to bring the game to platforms other than the Xbox One because of this acquisition.
The update reads:
“Now, before anyone panics! We have confirmed that we will be able to honor Psychonauts 2 for every platform that we have already promised here, and that includes bringing the game to PlayStation 4!”
Psychonauts 2 was originally slated for release this year on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Linux and Mac. The exact date for 2020 has not yet been revealed.
