State of Decay 2 has been out a few days now and opinions on the game have been split to say the least. There are a lot of issues with the game, most of which are highlighted in our review, but the one that stands out a bit is not really a technical fault but one of gameplay design.
It’s regarding how the game doles out Influence, the primary currency in the title, and how scant it actually is in comparison with the amount actually required for some of the more larger purchases.
Influence is rewarded to the players for a bunch of different actions from returning supplies to your base, helping survivors, destroying Freak zombies like Juggernauts to destroying Plague Hearts that can be found scattered around the map.
The problem is that these activities reward very meager amounts of the currency from 10 to 50, which is almost always enough for small purchases from allied Enclaves, but are not nearly enough for things such as occupying new Bases or Outposts.
The best Home Base on each map costs exactly 3500 Influence, which takes a hell of a lot of mindless grinding to collect. And then you need around a 1000 each for some of the more important Outposts which provide your base with water and electricity.
The developers really need to fix this with a future patch, otherwise this is just another problem in an already imperfect game.
You can find some of the best ways to earn Influence in our guide here.
State of Decay 2 is available now on the Xbox One and the PC.
